These
exciting trips are undertaken on camelback in the Cholistan
and Thal deserts of
Punjab, Thar desert in Sind
and the Nushki and Kharan deserts of Baluchistan. In Cholistan the Safaris follow the
dried-up bed of the ancient river Hakra (also known as Sarvasti),
visiting many ancient forts and nomad settlements along the way. In
Baluchistan and Sind, the camel trips traverse the ancient routes
followed by nomads since ancient times as they moved from one water hole
to the next.
Each
camel has a saddle with extra foam cushioning and is ridden by only two
persons: the Tourist and the Camel-Driver. Of the two jeeps accompanying
the group, one carries the kitchen and tenting equipment whilst the
other is for handling emergencies. The
latter jeep provides “POINT” and “CHASE” support to the
camel-riding group throughout the day while the kitchen jeep travels
ahead to prepare camp. Two local musicians also accompany the group;
performing at night around the campfire whilst the camel drivers and
others perform local dances.
These
trips vary from THREE TO SEVEN day’s camel-ride but we can tailor the
itinerary according to the requirements of our valued clients. Camps
are made each night nearby one of the many ancient forts or nomad
settlements spread all over the desert, so the setting is quite dramatic
while the sunrises and sunsets are unforgettably romantic!
The
best time for Camel-Safaris is from MID NOVEMBER TO MID MARCH. We also
offer combinations of Boat, Camel and Jeep safaris, which prove to be
very interesting. You
can choose from one of the
given model programs but if you have any special requirements please let
us know and we will be glad to tailor
a program according to your wishes. These trips are also offered
in combination with Boat and Jeep safaris. For further details and
prices please contact us.
