Pakistan
covers an area three times the size of England and can aptly be called
the “land of diverse attractions”. The diversity of its landscapes,
distinct cultures and customs, festivals and artisans, music and folk
lore are not very well known to most outsiders. Tourism is in its
infancy and very few areas both in the north and south of our country
receive many tourists. There
are vast areas that are very remote, without proper roads and are very
sparsely populated. A good example is the province of Baluchistan that
covers 42% of Pakistan’s total area but has only 4% of the population.
Most of its vast deserts, oasis, mountains, rivers and beaches are yet
unexplored by most outsiders. Similarly,
Pakistan has almost 30,000 square kilometers of mountain areas, with
four of the greatest mountain ranges converging in the north of our
country offering very diverse landscapes and cultures. From lush green
valleys and mountainsides of the western Himalayas to the awe-inspiring
vistas of the barren high altitude deserts of the mighty Karakorams –
all these are there, waiting to be explored, as very few of these areas
have been visited by outsiders, partly due to their remoteness but
mostly because very few people outside of Pakistan, know about the
unique attraction of these places. Trans-Pakistan’s
product development team makes regular surveys of selected remote areas,
which offer distinct features and cultures to chalks out programs for
exploratory tours.
These
exciting trips explore remote areas hardly penetrated by outsiders and
are best suited for those travel enthusiasts who want to experience the
excitement of pioneering new routes and discovering new cultures and
customs. The group size for these trips is small (maximum 10 persons)
and accommodation is mainly in tents accompanied by a field kitchen.
We arrange all permissions and permits for these trips in advance
so your time in Pakistan is not wasted. We
are offering several very exciting Exploratory trips both for winters
and summers. Please consult the “Model Itineraries” section,
for details of these programs. |

This
novel and exciting 15 days trip will take you in to the picturesque
valley of Haramosh where you explore it on foot.
This is a new area being introduced by Trans-Pakistan for
trekking and very few outsiders have visited this area. Haramosh
valley lies near the meeting point of two of the greatest mountain
ranges of the world, the Himalayas and the Karakorams. It is a valley of
contrasts; the lower regions are dry and barren with snow covered
mountain peaks in the background while the upper reaches are lush green
with thick pine forests, glaciers and high peaks. As the area is away
from the normal tourist routes therefore it is in a pristine state and
the people living here are very friendly and hospitable. It
is a land of lush green meadows surrounded by thick pine and birch
forests. Wild flowers bloom abundantly during July - August and the
setting is extremely beautiful with crystal clear streams flowing across
its meadows. The
fairy-tale lake of “Kutwal”, 3260 meters in altitude is one of the
highlights of this trek. It shimmers under the shadows of Haramosh Peak
7409 Mt and Mani Peak 6684 Mts., flanked by the Mani Glacier. Towards
its South-west are the snow covered ridges and peaks of the Haramosh
range presenting awe-inspiring views of the beautiful landscape while
the “Bilchar Peak” (6134 Mts.) and other snow bound ridges of the
“Rakaposhi Range” are towards its north and the north-west. Towards
the east is the “Haramosh La”, 4800 meters high and the snow covered
ridges of the “Liala Massif” (6770-6300 Mts.) and due north east are
the high ridges of the “Malibuting Massif” (7458 to 7260 Mts.). It
is indeed a mountain wonderland.
The
shepherd settlements of Haramosh, perched along the glacier moraine are
very picturesque and normally consist of a few log and stone huts, where
they live with their goats, sheep and cows, during the summer months
only. Begin
your journey by driving through the Himalayan foot hills to join the
Karakoram highway, a modern re-incarnation of the ancient Silk Route,
which snakes through three of the world’s greatest mountain ranges and
joins Pakistan with China at the Khunjerab Pass 4733 meters high. Marvel
at the diversity of the impressive mountain landscape; visit the ancient
“Buddhist Rock Engravings” of 2ndAD at Shatial and Chilas
before arriving in Gilgit. Travel
through the enchanting landscapes of Hunza all the way up-to the Chinese
border at Khunjerab Pass stopping overnight at Karimabad and Gulmit.
Visit Karimabad’s 600 years old Baltit Fort and explore the beautiful
valley of Nagar before returning to Gilgit for the trekking leg of the
journey. Fourwheel
up the Indus Gorge along the mighty river Indus to reach the road head
to begin your exciting trek up the Haramosh valley. Hike up to the pine
forested village of Iskere and traverse the Mani glacier to reach
“Kutwal Lake” where you camp for two nights enjoying the
serene mountain scenery and visiting the Haramosh base camp. Explore
the beautiful but small
“Baskai Valley”, 3900 meter high, enclosed at its northern
end by the towering ridges of “Laila 2 and 3” peaks (7458 and 7260
Mts.). The mountainsides have thick patches of pine and Birch Forest
while its meadows are lush green with streams flowing through. This
valley is also known for precious and semi-precious stones that are
mined here by the locals. Trek
down to Barche at the end of the trek and drive to Chilas for overnight
before returning to Islamabad where this adventurous journey ends. |
